By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Wyatt Haughton and Katelyn Rupe broke course records on Saturday at the Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan.

Haughton broke the 15-minute barrier (14:59.7) on the way to a victory over 2021 champion Micah Blomker from Shawnee Mission North. Haughton's victory paved the way for the SM East boys, who won the championship with 65 points.

In the 5A girls race, Katelyn Rupe of Salina Central ripped through the course in 17:13.9 for a 65-second margin of victory and a course record. The win introduced her a bit more to the wider world. A year ago, she opted to play tennis instead of run. The sophomore is in her first year of cross country.

In the 6A girls race, junior Anjali Hocker Singh from Olathe North won her third consecutive individual title in 18:17.1. Paige Mullen from SM Northwest was second in 18:29.4. Olathe West won the team championship.

Blue Valley Southwest stopped St. Thomas Aquinas' eight-year run of boys 5A state titles with a 67-82 victory over the runner-up Saints. Henry King of St. Thomas Aquinas won the 5A race in 15:16.6 and had a margin over 32 seconds.

St. James won the 5A girls championship with the team's top four all finishing in the top 19, led by fourth placer Quinn Hays

Tonganoxie senior Eli Gilmore won the 4A boys race in 16:18.5. Wamego won the team title with 48 points.

Eudora's Sydney Owens and Hanna Keltner went 2-3 up front on the way to successfully defending the 4A girls title with 51 points. Hayley Trotter from Clearwater won the individual title in 19:17.4.

Clay Shively led Witchita Trinity to the 3A boys title with his individual victory in 15:26.1. Bree Allen from Prairie View won the girls final in 18:56.4 and Southeast of Saline put three in the top 10 on the way to the team victory.
