Cormick Logue Follows In Big Sister's Footsteps in Kansas

It was a banner day for the Logue family on Saturday. At the 4A/2A/1A meet at Wamego Country Club, Girard junior Cormick Logue raced to his first Class 4A Kansas State Cross Country title, winning in 16 minutes, 13.30 seconds. Moments later at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Waco, Texas, Logue's older sister, Callie, won her second straight conference title.

The Iowa State junior narrowly beat out Oklahoma State's Taylor Somers, 20:08.2 to 20:08.5 for the win.

In Kansas, the Buhler boys repeated as 4A champs with 95 points.

Chapman's Taylor Briggs won her third straight 4A title in 19:00.05, 31 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Buhler made it a program sweep, winning the team title with 60 points.

Bishop Seabury senior Henry Nelson claimed the top individual honors in the boys 2A race, winning in 16:36.09. Stanton County placed three runners in the top 15, and all five in the top 26 to win the team championship with 40 points.

The Stanton County girls scored 80 points to make it a program sweep. The 2A girls individual title was won by junior Erin Hammeke of Ellinwood in 19:12.28.

In boys 1A, junior Caleb Eilert of Beloit-St. John's won by more than 25 seconds in 16:22.97. Elbing-Berean Academy won the team crown with 49 points, placing three runners in the top 20.

Junior Jaycee Vath of Lincoln defended her 1A title in 19:11.33, while Doniphan West edged out Elbing-Berean Academy, 62-63 for the team title.

6A/5A/3A

It was a dominating effort from Daniel Harkin on Saturday afternoon at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence. The Manhattan junior clocked the fastest time of the day at the state meet to easily win his first 6A title in 15:25.3. A year ago he was runner-up. The team title went to Washburn Rural with 86 points, which placed two runners in the top eight.

Led by a runner-up finish from Katie Schwartzkopf, the 2018 champion, the Mill Valley girls scored 53 points to repeat as 6A champs. Blue Valley sophomore Tori Wingrove won the 6A title in the second-fastest girls time of the day in 18:24.7.

St. Thomas Aquinas won the 5A boys team championship for the sixth consecutive season. Individually, Andover senior Ryn Kinnae took first in 15:48.4.

Bishop Carroll's Hope Jackson, a sophomore, put down the fastest time of the day, winning the 5A crown in 18:17.9. The St. James Academy girls repeated as 5A state champions with 73 points.

In 3A action, Dylan Sprecker led Southeast of Saline to a repeat team title as he won the race in 16:31.5. Southeast of Saline placed three runners in the top five.

Norton Community won the 3A girls title with 75 points. Sophomore Jentrie Alderson of Southeast of Saline won the race in 18:50.3.
